My morning clients have often seen me sipping on my green smoothies. Some of them are intrigued by my green concoctions, and some are quite puzzled by them. Yet since I have frequently gotten requests for my recipes, I am very excited to share them with you here and now.

I have been making them daily since New Years Day 2013. I was easily hooked on them because of how amazing they made me feel. They really created a dramatic change to my overall well-being. By using organic, whole, and clean ingredients I know that I am giving my body the absolute best nutrition.
Over the 5 ½ years that I have been making my daily green smoothies they have evolved quite a bit. I have tweaked them several times for taste and my nutritional needs, I have changed proteins, and a year ago I had to switch from the Icelandic Skyr I had been using, to a plant based protein, when I eliminated dairy from my diet altogether. As you may already know, the nutritional guidelines that I follow are for an anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer protocol, as this was prescribed by my awesome primary doctor. To simplify it, I eat dairy-free, gluten-free, and avoid nightshade fruits & vegetables. This is what keeps my body feeling and performing its best, and makes it a lot easier for me to manage overall my health. Please note that I firmly believe each individual needs to find what is right for their own body.
Anyways, this is my best Green Smoothie recipe yet! It is less sweet than the original, it has fewer grams of sugar because of having less of the whole fruit in it. If you would prefer to make yours sweeter, (and I might suggest that you start off that way and then taper it down) the recipe would have a whole banana (not a half) and a handful of pineapple chunks or grapes in it. Another alteration is, when I need to supplement some extra fat into my day, I will add either a tablespoon of cold-pressed extra virgin coconut oil or 18 whole raw almonds into my ingredients list.
For my Green Smoothie my protein powder of choice is Garden Of Life Organic Plant Protein grain-free, unflavored, unsweetened.
The greens powder I use is Amazing Grass Green Superfood Detox & Digest. I love them both!
I recommend trying out a few of the protein and the greens powders available, and playing around with them. I tried many different ones before I found what was best for my body and my digestive system. Another word of advice is make sure you pick an unflavored protein. You may use any type of protein you wish, but keep in mind that Whey protein tends to make smoothies very fluffy.
Heidi’s Green Smoothie Recipe:
- 2 cups packed – baby spinach
- 1 cup packed – baby kale
- ½ of a large banana
- ½ of a good-sized apple
- 1 heaping scoop – Greens powder
- 1 level scoop – Plant based protein powder
- 1 cup – frozen berries blend
- 12 oz. – coconut water
I place all of the ingredients (in that order) into the blender cup of my high powered blender, and then blend them until completely smooth (60-90 seconds). Enjoy it right away!
Here is my other go-to goodness! My Recovery Smoothie, that can be sipped for a light breakfast, for pre-workout or post-workout, for a meal replacement, or for an afternoon pick-me-up. It is creamy, slightly sweet and delicious! (Think peanut butter on a banana.)
For this one I love Garden Of Life Raw Organic Protein, unflavored, unsweetened. Along with Naked Nutrition Naked Choc PB.
These work so well for me and keep my tummy happy. I’ve experimented a lot with protein powders and I encourage you to do so as well, to find what your body prefers. Pretty much the only sugar in this one comes from the banana, so you can substitute mixed berries to have fewer grams of sugar and a slightly different taste. (More like a PB & J flavor.) And for those of my friends that prefer it sweeter, you can add a touch of raw honey to the recipe.
Heidi’s Recovery Smoothie Recipe:
- 1 medium or large banana
- 12 oz cashew milk
- 1 level scoop protein powder
- 2 level scoops peanut butter powder
I place all of the ingredients (in that order) into the blender cup of my high powered blender, and then blend them until completely smooth (about 40 seconds). Enjoy it right away!
So… there you go! These are my two favorite smoothies. I really hope that you find them enjoyable and incorporate them into your lifestyle. There are endless possibilities for customizing smoothies, and they are so convenient, quick & easy to make, and highly portable. Which makes them an excellent source of clean nutrition. Sip away my friends!
Love & wellness, Heidi XOXO

I love sharing ideas, this is my advice from one friend to another. Stay in touch with me by subscribing to my blog. Everything I have written here is based on years of personal experience and countless hours of my own research. It is all my own personal opinion and I am certainly not making any medical recommendations since I am not a doctor. Always choose foods and ingredients that help you achieve your nutritional goals, and that don’t contradict any dietary allergies or restrictions you may have. I’d be happy to recommend substitutions of ingredients for you.
